Aevum is a game that is built on individuality and unique qualities - this can some time open the door to confusion and a bit of general head scratching. If you're confused about anything, don't worry - you've found the right place to ask your questions!
Please ensure that you have read the Maxim - this should answer most, if not all of your basic questions. If you cannot find your answer there, post it up here. Any member of Aevum, be it a game owner, moderator, or general member can answer your question if they are sure of the answer! Previous Questions If a Tarin's or Chelan's inspiration animal has iridescence, can that Avari also have iridescent feathers/scales and fur? Yes, they may! The iridescence of fur, however, should be less noticeable than the feathers or scales. What is the current year? The current year is 2010 A.C.. Aevum, the planet, was created after the Gods and Goddesses fled from the Corrupt Planet, and the 'star date' on this new planet is judged by the prefix of A.C., meaning After Corruption. Does Aevum have regulated seasons? Aevum operates on the same seasonal base as the United States, meaning that Winter occurs during November-March, Spring during March-June, Summer during June-September, and Autumn during September-November. The severity of these seasons will be determined by the area of Eneas that is in question. For example, Eurus (the East) is likely to have very harsh winters, whereas Notus (the South) is likely to have very mild ones. I'm just going to play a loner - do I need to officially join Aevum? Yep! You must post a joining application and wait to be accepted. The good news is, is that loners as of this time do not have a cap, so it is very unlikely that you will have to wait for long to be accepted! For Tarin, and their knowledge of plants (for the Medic power), are we to assume normal earthen type flora with standard medicinal uses? You are more than welcome to use Earth-style flora as a base line for Tarin's Medic knowledge (and general game play!), but please do feel free to expand upon this collection - use your imagination! The same is applicable for fauna found on Aevum - things do not have to be exactly as they are on Earth! I noticed that Avari come into sexual maturity at 10 months for males and 13 months for females... what's that in human years?! Isn't that sort of young? 10 months would be the equivalent of a 12-13 years old, and 13 months around 14-16 years old. And yes, that is rather young, but here's the why - humans come into their sexual maturity around these ages, if not earlier. Just because someone is sexually mature does not mean that they are mentally mature! Hopefully, the Avari who are floating around here taught their kiddos to be smart and wait until they're around 2 years old (the equivalent of early twenties or so), but that isn't to say that teen-aged mothers don't happen. |

Er, I can't seem to change my time zone. I got an error that looked like this. :I

It seems the board is cleverer than I am - I just took off the password protection, and it works fine now. I guess we'll just have to moderate incoming posts there instead of trying to be sneakier than the bots! Thanks for giving me a heads up! In regard to the editing your time zone stuff... yeah, it's still cleverer than I am, so I'm going to have to see what I can do about that. In the mean time... uh... stop hacking the board? <3 I'll figure it out and let you know. |

How intricate/realistic do Hova fur patterns have to be? How much leniency can there be fore swiggles/markings that don't necessarily appear in the sky but are still kind of minor? I'm thinking a design along the lines of mostly white - clouds - and a few blue lines/marks, maybe speckles or a long mark along her neck (kind of like breaks in the clouds, but much more stylized/not really the way it looks in nature). Is this acceptable, or do I have to stick with exactly what you see in the sky?

The preference, obviously, would be that you stick with as much as what can be seen in the sky; however, artistic license is allowable. Please make sure that it is within the realm of the rules though; if in doubt, post up an image of what you're thinking up either here, or PM it to either Sonia or myself, and we'll give you a verdict :)

What kind of things count toward practicing the 'high flier' ability? Is it just staying aloft for a long time (in which case, most threads are too short for that to happen frequently, unless you make reference to having flown somewhere), or general practice of flying skills, dexterity, etc?
|

Practicing the flying ability via dexterity, challenging weather conditions, performing tasks and duties which would normally be done on the ground in an aerial capacity would all be acceptable options - it can be exceptionally tedious to have a thread with someone that goes on for days, I would only imagine!
You may also consider seeing about traveling from end of the island to another in a single thread (with purpose, not just in a single post!). Any other ideas on how to work at this ability would be welcome, however! If anything strikes you, just make a note of it here and I'll try to let you know if that would be a possibility. |

Hm, perhaps a good way would be to have a thread that takes place entirely (or at least on the Hova in question's part) in the air? That would certainly take some effort to roleplay out, so it wouldn't fall into the trivial "he's flying, so he gets to level up!" case.
In a related question, for the other powers, do they have to be used just once (in a single post), or referenced multiple times throughout the thread to count towards leveling? |

I agree - it might also be interesting, in a Hova's case, to have a thread with another species who can't go for innumerable hours at a time in the air and have them steadily watch as the other species tires out. The main point, however, is that in a thread where you are working toward a higher level, there has to be a pointed objective.
It wouldn't really make sense for abilities to be leveled up by a single reference to them throughout the entire course of a thread; it would need to be something that is really the goal of the thread (in a Tarin's case for Medic, for example, they would have to be seeking out a certain plant, try to ascertain it's usefulness, and/or in the most ideal of circumstances, apply their knowledge in a practical manner; with a Pyralis' fire tongue ability, they would need to work at controling the outward spray of the combustable fluid in time with their breath, try to burn something, etc.). The way I pictured the utilization of an ability, while in the growing stages, would be much the way that a baby would learn to walk or talk: LOADS of trial and error, fumbling effort, etc. Retrospectivly, I'm not certain how many people will want to work in a concentrated effort, but that is also part of the allure of getting the levels - its not meant to be a simple thing! That's why there's so much power to be had in certain cases - if a player isn't really in it, it's not likely that they'll achieve that super powerful ability. |

Related to your last post here. I was wondering what it was the older characters have been doing all these years that their skill levels wouldn't be higher at startup? I know why you have everyone's level set at one, ocly, but ICly, it makes little sense to me that a 5 year old and a 1 year old would be at the same ability skill level. I have a suggestion regarding this if you'd want it, but I do kind of want to know the answer anyway.

The same reason that not all of us are linguists or expert artists - different people (in this case, Avari) have different priorities and, thus, are not all going to be equal at a given age. Suggesti are welcome, but please PM them to me on this account rather than post it here :)
